When developing a website, a person probably already knows what they want the site to be about. But in many cases, this can be the only thing that a person knows. They may have no idea what types of applications they want on the site, where they want everything located, or even what color and imagery they want to be depicted on the page. In some cases, the person may not even know what they want the web page to be called. These decisions are all taken into consideration in web design.
Now, a web designer won’t necessarily make these decisions for the customer, but what they can do is give them options and feedback and more importantly, they can put turn the decisions into a well-oiled and aesthetically pleasing portal of information. Regardless of whether a person is creating a page for their startup business, a personal blog, or a non-profit charity, web design is going to be a crucial aspect in order to succeed.
One of the most important features of web design is visual appeal. First impressions are vital. A person can make up their mind about a site, product, or topic in less than a second. When coming upon a site, if their first impression was a bad one, it will be hard for them to overcome that opinion in order to form new ones; subconsciously, they will sabotage their experience. This is why it is so important to make sure that the creation looks good without being too distracting. Good web design will not draw attention to itself but to the topic or product being featured.
Grabbing the focus of the reader is a crucial, if a website visitor becomes bored or cannot find the purpose of the site amidst all of the distractions, there might as well be no website to begin with. It is important that as soon as that page loads, the viewer knows what the site is about and wants to be there. Maneuverability and functionality can help or hinder as well. Last Christmas, a well-known retail store launched a huge online Black Friday campaign on Facebook but within minutes of beginning the sale, their site crashed. Many potential customers were lost because of this. On the other hand, if a potential customer or viewer can easily find what they are looking for, they are more likely to frequent the site over the other possible options.
Set apart from the competition. In a world where there are literally hundreds of thousands of websites to choose from on the internet, web design is imperative in order to stand out. A poor web design can make a professional organization look like amateurs or it can help turn a startup small business into a billion dollar conglomerate. What it basically boils down to is, a person can either get the web design correct at the beginning and let it help lead them to success or they can put together a sloppy site and fall off the virtual face of the earth. If there are any doubts as to which one a site would be considered, it’s best to contact a professional web designer.
